I have gotten tons of calls over the past week or so. I thought it was time I publicy address whats going on in my life.
First: I am no longer with RE/MAX Results. I am very appreciative of what I learned in my time there. Not only did I learn some valuable lessons, I really loved the agents and staff I worked with. I hate that I didnt get to say goodbye to so many of you. But I was truly reminded of how wonderful you all are by the calls I have received. Its humbling to know that I had an impact on so many of you and I am so thankful that I got the chance to do so. While I am sad that I will no longer be working with you all directly, I am still around and I will still continue to help agents in any way I can. I am not leaving the industry any time soon.
Second: Years ago I tossed around the idea of starting my own non profit. This was an idea that my BFF Jamie came up with after a lot of challenges we both faced. Jamie and I met when we were 11 Years old. We are two completely different people who managed to meet each other at a moment when we both needed support. We seemed to face every possible life challenge and I dont know what our lives would be like had we not had each other to rely on. We decided we wanted to prevent women from dealing with the issues that we have. We never want women to face things alone. So Project Barbara was formed. I supposed you are curious whats behind the name. So heres the story:
About a year ago, I decided that it was time to make this happen. I began working on things with my attorney and gathering information. Prior to getting my documents together to form the non-profit offically, I met a boy. I soon learned that his mother had committed suicide. So when mothers day came around, I decided to give him a gift. This gift was naming the non profit after his mother. While our relationship is still in its infancy, his mother is one of the many examples of why what we want to do is so important.
Our plan is to help women in any way we can. Whether its mentorship, education, counseling, legal support, or shelter. Politcal advocacy will also be a huge part of what we do. This is more important now than ever. In the wake of one of the most iconic elections in history, womens rights is something we need to fight for. Thanks to everyone for the calls, texts and emails. I’m lucky to have really awesome people like you in my life!
Stay tuned for whatever happens next! Cheers!
