Get To Know and Respect Your Collegues

One of the issues with out jobs is that sometimes we have no control over what another party does in any transaction we have.  While we still continue to do everything we can for our clients, there are just some things “acts of god” that we can never predict happening.

However over the years, one important thing that I have learned is to get to know agents, loan officers and closers in the communities which I serve.  I do a ton of networking. I can honestly say that I have developed some great connections and made some new friends.  It’s an awesome thing.

What this ultimately does for me is this… I have a relationship with another agent. We have respect for each other. Deals happen with these agents and I know that there is a trust factor involved.  We are then able to have open communication with each other about transactions we are involved in together.  Its my own “circle of trust” with colleagues.

So get to know others in the industry and take the time to communicate with them. Be genuine and authentic.  Share stories and ideas.  We all have the same goals in mind so why not help each other!

thankyou

Wow, Thank You!

I published a post on Tuesday about a pretty personal situation.  I was sweating bullets right before I published it.  I had concerns about how people may perceive it.

The next morning, I found several messages from people.  I couldn’t believe it! The pouring in of support was amazing.  I had a hard time holding back the tears.  I felt very humbled.  I would have never expected a bunch of agents being so supportive.

So thank you to all of you that sent me comments.  It’s great to know that so many agents could sympathize. It’s hard to explain how much it meant to me.  I just wanted to express my gratitude to all of you!  Thank you so much!

Got doped on Pot Brownies by a 75 year old little woman

So doing an open house last week in the nice small neighborhood near the beach and with a nice neighborhood private pool.  Perfect location, great home and the neighbors just seem so sweet. Everyone came by to meet me and speak to me.  This dear, LITTLE, older woman who was in her mid to late 70’s comes over with a plate of brownies for me.  I had seen her at the pool with her grandchildren earlier and she told me that she just hated thinking of real estate agents at open houses getting hungry.  So I am thinking what is the harm; I have seen her with her grandchildren; and the brownies looked to die for.  And yes I was hungry.  So while talking to her and showing her the house I eat 4 of them, then she gives me 2 more to take to my husband and well I ate those too.  Small problem, eating them was the last thing I remember and according to my husband came home stoned off my rear end.  He was worried and called his uncle who is a doctor and his uncle confirmed that I was stoned and those must have been hash brownies I ate.  The only thing I can think is that she could have something like glaucoma and puts the pot in brownies and then having her grandchildren staying with her for the week made a regular batch, but brought me the wrong ones.  She had grandchildren, so I doubt she was feeding them pot and she was so sweet I don’t think she would really try to poison me nor if she knew they had pot in them would have let me eat so many.  So yes another crazy story-I got doped at an open house.  I am glad I didn’t get pulled over because how would I explain my behavior to a cop.  Especially since I don’t remember getting home and kept swearing to my husband that nothing could be wrong with me.  They were REALLY good brownies, pot aside.  I work with some strange customers and seem to end up with the craziest stories.  I really thought I had seen it all in sales with an engineering firm and in life insurance.  However, I have been told that the craziness just doesn’t ever stop coming.  Pot brownies are a new one in my office, but crazy stories are part of the job. Lesson Learned, I will just know in the future to NEVER take food from someone no matter how old and sweet they seem.

Don’t be shady!

I recently became aware of a situation with a local real estate agent.   He was a big REO type agent.  He does a ton of business.   Never heard a bad thing about him until a few weeks ago…

I had recently stopped at a local shop.   The owner and I got into a casual real estate conversation.   A local appliance company got brought up.  We kind of chuckled at the store’s advertising of used appliances that were selling for just as much as new ones.  He then, threw a bombshell on me….a local real estate agent was supplying this appliance company with used appliances from bank owned properties that he had listed! I couldn’t believe it! Obviously, this could just be gossip but who would make this stuff up?

Which made me think, is it really all about making a buck?  Why make a property less desirable to a potential buyer?  I can’t imagine that the appliance store is really paying this agent that much money for these items.  What does this agent get out of this?

It’s obvious that this agent lacks any professionalism not to mention the ethical situation that this brings on.  This is another case of an agent devaluing the real estate industry in general.

To me, it’s what I strive not to be.  I could never imagine doing this.  As an agent, you have to understand the simple idea of doing the right thing.  You should care about what your actions to do our industry.   Don’t be a chump!

Throwing in the towel

There are days like today, that I feel like throwing in the towel. I had a buyer become disqualified due to purchasing a vehilcle over the weekend. I feel like every single deal is taking so long to close. When I break down the costs of every deal, its pretty much a wash. It seems as if there is so much fighting against me.

But then I look back and realize why I chose to do this is the first place. The reasons are below.

1. I love real estate
2. It’s all I have ever known
3. I wanted to be in control of my business
4. I have the sense of being an entreptenuer
5. I have goal and if I dont make them, I will feel like a failure.

I always think back to these things. They help me turn a rough day around.

Professionalism, courtesy and respect

Professionalism, courtesy and respect

I once read an article about the top careers that you need to be concerned about your appearance. Real estate was #3. I took it to heart. I try to be as professional as possible when I am in public and I treat every person that I meant like a potential client. I sometimes worry about it so much, that it completely drives me crazy.

I recently was out with some friends for a bachelorette party. I had it in my head to be a “good girl” and not be the typical girl on someone’s last night out. It was a great time. Yes, there were some wild moments but I was lucky not to be directly involved with them.

At the end of the night, we got on the bus to go back home. 5 minutes into our drive home, I noticed that there was an unfamiliar face. I decided to find out. I asked “who are you”. He was heavily intoxicated….”I’m going to Burnsville”. I said “I think you are on the wrong bus.”
Because he was so intoxicated, I offered to call him a cab when we to our destination. He agreed.
I got to talking to him and he stated that he was a commercial Realtor. I said “that great, I’m in residential”. Then, with no warning whatsoever he stated “wow, you must not make any money!” I was flabbergasted! I could believe someone would say something like that to a fellow agent.
I decided to take the high road and just walk away and not deal with his drunken thoughts.

When we got back, we called him a cab. He refused to leave. He claimed he was staying at our house. I said, “No, we don’t know you, so we will call you a cab”. He still refused. I ended up calling the cab but it was going to take them an hour to get to us. In the meantime, this agent decided that he wanted to fight everyone. It just kept going downhill. This guy got so distraught, that we ended up calling the cops on him. Police came, they arrested him and we celebrated!

I do know this agents name and I have chosen to forget it. I couldn’t believe the lack of respect he had for people in general. This is a perfect example of how an agent should never act.
